A visit by faculty, collaborators and the Director of Ilum School of Science — the academic arm of the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) — to the Center for Information Technology Renato Archer, sealed the partnership between the institutions. The agreement, which lasts for five years and can be renewed at the end of the period, provides for the pooling of efforts, knowledge and information in areas of common interest.
Founded over 40 years ago, the Center for Information Technology Renato Archer works in partnership with agents from the private sector, academia, and government to promote and generate innovations with the goal of developing national industry and promoting the well-being of people. There are four areas of research and development: Industry 4.0, Advanced Health, Enabling Technologies, and Digital Government. “For the Center Renato Archer, this is a great moment. We are optimistic about this partnership, which aims to offer a unique infrastructure, combined with the experience of more than 40 years of our researchers who work on highly technological projects, to strengthen the teaching of students as differentiated as those at Ilum”, says Juliana Daguano, Director of the Center for Information Technology Renato Archer.

The Ilum delegation, made up of the School’s faculty and professionals, visited all the laboratories at the Renato Archer. “It was an inspiring experience to get to know such a well-equipped laboratory up close, with excellent infrastructure and great potential for scientific and technological development”, observes Fazzio.
About lum School of Science
Ilum is a free higher education institution that employs an interdisciplinary approach to educating scientists and professionals in Science and Technology. With an innovative educational model, the three-year bachelor’s degree offers full-time classes, connecting Life Sciences, Materials Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Humanities to educate researchers capable of acting ethically and collaboratively in the search for solutions to the global issues of the 21st century. Ilum is funded by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and is part of the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), in Campinas (SP), a Social Organization supervised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). Its teaching proposal offers early contact with experimental activities, whether in Ilum’s teaching laboratories or at CNPEM, in projects developed together with the researchers.
About CNPEM
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is home to a state-of-the-art, multi-user and multidisciplinary scientific environment and works on different fronts within the Brazilian National System for Science, Technology and Innovation. A social organization overseen by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), CNPEM is driven by research that impacts the areas of health, energy, renewable materials, and sustainability. It is responsible for Sirius, the largest assembly of scientific equipment constructed in the country, and is currently constructing Project Orion, a laboratory complex for advanced pathogen research. Highly specialized science and engineering teams, sophisticated infrastructure open to the scientific community, strategic lines of investigation, innovative projects involving the productive sector, and training for researchers and students are the pillars of this institution that is unique in Brazil and able to serve as a bridge between knowledge and innovation. CNPEM’s research and development activities are carried out through its four National Laboratories: Synchrotron Light (LNLS), Biosciences (LNBio), Nanotechnology (LNNano), Biorenewables (LNBR), as well as its Technology Unit (DAT) and the Ilum School of Science — an undergraduate program in Science and Technology supported by the Ministry of Education (MEC).
