Professionals with experience in AI and Data Science from the Campinas region will receive a fellowship of up to R$ 1,250
Ilum, the Science School of CNPEM, is accepting applications until 30 April for the selection of tutors for the new distance learning (EaD) continuing education course for high school teachers in the public school system of Paraíba. This initiative is an opportunity for professionals with experience in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science who wish to work at the interface between technology, education, and social impact.
The course is part of an agreement between Ilum/CNPEM (Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials) and the Government of Paraíba to train public school teachers, lasting six months. The tutors will work with Paraíba’s state teachers until December, supporting training on the critical and ethical use of artificial intelligence and its application in the educational context. The program will emphasize real-world problems, especially in the areas of sustainability and the environment. For this position, Ilum seeks candidates with a strong technical background, a communicative profile, and experience in education or tutoring.
“More than technical expertise, we are looking for people who know how to engage with diverse audiences, since the participating teachers will have very different backgrounds”, explains Felippe Colombari, who heads the program. “The idea is that AI should be presented as a tool to support teaching, in an ethical and responsible manner, rather than as something that replaces the role of the teacher”, he says.
Candidates must live within a 200 km radius of Campinas.
In total, 24 tutors will be selected, divided into two categories:
- 16 tutors at the undergraduate-level, focused on providing closer supervision to teachers in training, working daily on the course, supporting activities, interacting in forums, and offering support via the Moodle platform;
- 8 tutors at the postgraduate-level, responsible for supporting the pedagogical coordination, supervising undergraduate tutors, and assisting with more advanced conceptual demands.
The positions are intended for candidates with proven experience in Artificial Intelligence or Data Science, regardless of their original field of study. A specific degree in computer science is not required, provided the candidate demonstrates prior experience through courses, academic transcripts, or certifications.
The course is online, with the possibility of occasional in-person meetings. Therefore, the public call is only open to candidates who reside within a radius of up to 200 kilometers from Campinas (SP).
Fellowship and selection process
The selected tutors will be appointed for a fixed term, receiving monthly stipends of R$ 850 for undergraduate-level tutors and R$ 1,250 for postgraduate-level tutors, and do not constitute a permanent employment relationship, as stipulated in the official public notice. The initial duration of the fellowship is one semester, with the possibility of renewal.
The selection process will consider the curriculum review as well as the submission of a video presentation. “The video helps us understand how the person communicates, something essential for anyone who will be working directly with teachers in a remote course”, Colombari highlights.
